My Private Gym
The small , daily changes we make can have a tremendous impact. How you start and end your day really does matter. Let’s begin with our daily routine. Some humans cannot interact with the world without their morning coffee. I must confess, I not only want it, I NEED it! A change I made recently has gone a long way in a short time. My coffee has almond milk in it, ONLY. That’s just ME! My body was saying no to the Lactaid and sugar in the raw, although those are the lesser of the dairy and sugar evils.
After a half a cup, as opposed to my three cups before any thinking was allowed to take place, I started to do 10 minutes of yoga. This was done in the bathroom on a yoga mat while my bath water filled. I know…but balance is something I strive to achieve, not always successfully. The quest continues. In my small but convenient yoga “studio” I noticed one of two things. The warmth and aroma coming from my garden tub, seasoned with a dash of my favorite lavender vanilla bath soak, assisted to mellow my normally high gear disposition. It allowed my tight morning muscles to ease into the flow of the yoga moves more fluidly than when practiced in the colder, basement option. I found my new studio + bath-house sauna to be the perfect blend to allow relaxation and maximal muscle stretch.
Secondly, and a very significant finding for me both financially and systemically, was that I no longer required the three-cup brain slap as before. The 1/2 cup coffee + 10 minute yoga morning routine has stuck and I have more “calm-energy” than the heart pounding, aggressive energy as previously adopted. I no longer hear my husband quip, “Maybe you should go run on the treadmill”. My change is a family change as well. My husband, children and dog are forever grateful.
